Thermoplastic elastomers

Rimflex TPV-Series thermoplastic elastomers are described in a one-page bulletin. These reactively compounded TPEs are designed to provide the thermoplastic processor with compounds that can compete with thermoset rubber, and yet afford all of the advantages of thermoplastic resin processing. Emulsion polymerization

Specialty chemicals for emulsion polymerization are described in company literature. The line includes a range of sulfonates and sulfates marketed under the tradename Calimulse. The Calimulse products include alcohol sulfates, ether sulfates and linear and branched alkyl benzene sulfonates in both solid and liquid forms. In addition to the Calimulse products, the company's offering to the emulsion polymerization industry includes Calfax diphenyl oxide disulfonates. A recently published guide to the use of Calfax products in emulsion polymerization is included in the literature package for the new line of chemicals. Recycled rubber

Innovative breakthroughs in the application of recycled rubber compounds are described in a one-page bulletin. The company has developed a material for the upper air deflector and splash shield for Ford Motor's F-250 Truck Series. The Symar-T material is said to represent a breakthrough in the ability to use a high percentage of recycled content and still meet the tough quality and durability standards at Ford, according to the literature. Symar-T is said to provide the physical characteristics of rubber, including noise and vibration dampening, and sealing, and the appearance and processing advantages of plastics. With Symar-T, costs are contained because of lower cost materials, faster production cycle times and the elimination of batch compounding, according to the literature. The material is said to have as much as 60% rubber crumb from passenger car tires and is itself recyclable. Hydrocarbon resins

A full-color booklet outlining the Regalite V and T Series resins is available. Regalite V1100, Regalite V1120 and Regalite T1140 resins are mixed aliphatic/aromatic, water-white, hydrogenated hydrocarbon resins based on dicyclopentadiene (DCPD) and modified DCPD. They are said to be excellent tackifiers for the midblocks of thermoplastic block copolymers, and exhibit excellent compatibilities with polyolefin polymers and ethylene-vinyl-acetate (EVA), according to the literature. They are also said to be ideal for adhesives applications such as packaging, glue sticks, nonwovens and for polymer modification. The Regalites are said to have proven chemistries so they can be used as replacements for a range of mixed aliphatic/aromatic resins. They exhibit color stability, low odor and good resistance to thermal and oxidative degradation, according to the literature. Rubber recycling

A 24-page, four-color brochure describes the company's rubber recycling division. Four separate units within the division are said to form a highly professional force as suppliers of rubber powder and crumb, reclaimed rubber and compounds for the rubber industry all over the world, according to the literature. These production materials are marketed under the tradename Ecorr, and are preferentially derived from recycled raw materials. ABS polymer melts

In "Rheology and constitutive equations for ABS polymer melts," the company's authors evaluate the accuracy of three different mathematical representations for acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene polymer melts. In this study, researchers characterized Lustran ABS polymer melt, then tested three constitutive equations--PTT (Phan-Thien and Tanner), Wagner and PSM (Papanastasiou-Scriven and Macosko)--and compared their accuracy in describing response of the melt to shear and extensional deformation, and predicting melt failure and stress relaxation. Fluorosilicone rubber

Silastic 5-2060 fluorosilicone rubber is featured in a two-page technical bulletin. Silastic 5-2060 is a 60-durometer base with very high tensile and high tear strength, according to the literature. It is said to handle well on mills and accepts extending filler. It is also said to exhibit excellent fluid resistance to most hydrocarbon and silicone fluids, is resilient, and is serviceable over a very wide temperature range, according to the bulletin. Processing insulation

Pyropel MD-60, a rigid, polyimide fiberboard insulation developed specifically to meet the stringent demands of rubber and plastic processing, is described in company literature. Pyropel MD-60 is designed to withstand temperatures up to 600 [degrees] F (315 [degrees] C) and is said to be two to four times more effective than other commonly used thermal insulation materials, according to the literature. Reinforced through a patented manufacturing process, it is said to be dimensionally stable and exceptionally tough and durable. Solid polyurethanes

Adiprene and Vibrathane solid polyurethanes are highlighted in an eight-page, full-color brochure. The literature covers general properties, such as the products' resistance to abrasion, oil, fuel and solvents. Excellent low temperature properties, very high tensile and tear strength, and high ozone and oxygen resistance are said to be among the products' other properties. These solid millable urethanes are said to be easily processed on all types of conventional rubber equipment. The compounds can be mixed on mills or internal mixers, extruded, calendered and molded by injection, compression and transfer molding techniques, according to the literature. Applications for urethanes are listed, including rolls, belts, seals and gaskets, solid tires and wheels, bladders and mechanical goods. Two grades of polyether urethanes and two grades of polyester urethanes are also featured. Adiprene CM and FM polyether polyurethanes can be vulcanized with either sulfur or peroxide. Two grades of polyester urethanes are said to offer outstanding resistance to fuel, oil and solvents. Vibrathane 5004 is a peroxide curable polyester polyurethane with excellent processing characteristics and easy injection moldability, according to the literature.
