Chemical resistance chart

A six-page chart, rating the resistance of fluoroelastomer synthetic rubber to over 750 chemicals and corrosive liquids, has been issued by the company. Fluoroelastomers, which are fluorine-containing hydrocarbon polymers, are often used in those industrial applications where exceptional resistance to heat and corrosion are required, according to the literature. The company manufactures and markets various liquid adhesives, sealants, caulks and coatings formulated from DuPont Dow Elastomer's Viton and other fluoroelastomers. The chart lists each chemical alphabetically and assigns one of six ratings to each. Ratings are based on extensive laboratory tests and experiments that have been performed on fluoroelastomers by outside organizations and are believed to be reliable. Heat transfer fluid

Color literature illustrates the solution the company's OR heat transfer fluid can offer for sludge formation. The OR fluid is said to offer up to 10 times the oxidation resistance of competitive fluids, according to the literature. At 600 [degrees] F, the OR fluid is said to provide the highest thermal efficiency of any natural hydrocarbon fluid currently available. Like the company's other heat transfer fluids, the OR fluid is non-toxic, and is said to be safely and easily disposed. In addition, it is said to offer high flash and fire points, precise, uniform temperature control and extended service between changeouts. With conventional heat transfer fluids, acid formation resulting from oxidative degradation is said to begin immediately. If nothing is done, sludge formation, thermal breakdown and the fouling of heated surfaces will soon compromise the productivity of these fluids, according to the company. The brochure describes the OR fluid's unique formulation which combines a two-part high stability base with high performance oxidation exhibitors. In applications where contact between air and hot heat transfer fluid is unavoidable, frequent tool change-outs, for example, this product is said to make a huge difference in quality, efficiency and productivity, according to the literature.
