Thermal phase transitions

Atomic force microscopy (AFM (Atomic Force Microscope) A device used to image materials at the atomic level. AFMs are used to solve processing and materials problems in electronics, telecom, biology and other high-tech industries. ) is said to offer the ability to perform high-resolution profiling of surface morphology and nanostructure, studies of local materials properties, compositional mapping of heterogeneous samples and probing of sub-surface sample structure, according to the company. These advanced capabilities are said to be available due to the development of TappingMode and Phase Imaging. To evaluate the capabilities of AFM imaging of polymers in air at various temperatures, an application note discusses a series of measurements on various samples in the temperature range of-50 [degrees] C to +120 [degrees] C using a MultiMode AFM.
