LINUX PLATFORM ENABLES CUSTOMERS TO USE RECOVERY SOLUTIONS.

Arkeia by Knox Software, a Southern California-based developer of enterprise network backup software, has joined the Oracle Backup Solutions Program (BSP), a cooperative program designed to facilitate tighter integration between Oracle's backup products and those of third-party media management vendors.

Through the BSP, Arkeia plans to introduce robust, easy-to-use database backup and recovery solutions to customers with high-end requirements who are running Oracle on the Linux platform.

An Oracle-designed specification in Oracle's architecture allows Oracle backup products to manage the process of live database backup and recovery, yet integrate with tape storage management subsystems. This specification allows Oracle backup products to use third party media management software such as Arkeia(R) 4.2 to perform hot database backup and restore functions.

Through its membership in the Oracle BSP, Arkeia will receive the support, tools and resources it requires to develop high-end Arkeia-based backup solutions for customers running Oracle on the Linux platform. Expected to be available in Q2 2000, these new products will complement Arkeia's existing entry-level and mid-range offerings for Oracle database backup.

"Oracle databases drive a great deal of the Internet's infrastructure," said Sam Siegel, president of Knox Software. "The rapidly expanding quantity of raw data created by the explosion of e-commerce highlights the business exposure that Internet companies face if they don't implement effective backup strategies that safeguard data. Our membership in the Oracle BSP will give Arkeia the Oracle development support necessary to offer flexible, high-end database backup solutions that can protect an Oracle user's valuable data without compromising the database's availability."
