LIGHTCONNECT Expands its ROADM Portfolio by Introducing a 100 GHz Metro Dynamic Channel Equalizer -- DCE.Business Editors NEWARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 30, 2003 Enables Full Wavelength Tunability in DWDM (Dense WDM) The term given to wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) when significantly more channels were being added. Since WDM is increasingly more "dense" all the time, both terms are used synonymously. See WDM. The 100GHZ DCE complements and builds upon LIGHTCONNECT's successful 50GHZ DCE currently designed in at several major OEMs worldwide. "This new architecture is becoming the preferred solution in metro networks as evidenced by several recent RFPs. With the introduction of the new 100 GHz DCE, LIGHTCONNECT enables optical system manufacturers to offer ROADM ROADM Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer ROADM Reconfigurable Add Drop Multiplexing solutions with best-in-class optical performance at the price of older static OADM." The LIGHTCONNECT 100GHZ DCE can independently equalize or block up to fifty DWDM channels on a 100 GHz grid and is the ideal building block for designing cost-effective Metro ROADM. These demanding applications require the most stringent optical performance, which the LIGHTCONNECT device is able to offer with an extinction of greater than 43 dB, useable bandwidth in excess of 55 GHz, and very low PDL, insertion loss and in-band ripple. The LIGHTCONNECT DCE is designed for reliability, ruggedness and low cost manufacturing.
Industry-leading performance features:
Channel spacing 100 GHz (C or L band)
Number of channels 50
Equalization dynamic range 0 - 20 dB
Channel bandwidth greater than 55 GHz
Channel blocking attenuation greater than 43 dB
Insertion loss less than 4 dB
PDL 0.3 dB
Inband Ripple 0.2 dB
PMD 0.5 ps
Package size 220 mm x 110 mm x 30 mm
Power consumption less than 6 Watts
The 100GHZ DCE communicates with the host system through either a Dual Port RAM or RS232 interface. For evaluation purposes, the DCE can be operated in automatic or manual mode with a user-friendly command set through a Graphical User Interface graphical user interface (GUI) Computer display format that allows the user to select commands, call up files, start programs, and do other routine tasks by using a mouse to point to pictorial symbols (icons) or lists of menu choices on the screen as opposed to having to (GUI) running on a PC. Pricing and Availability: The 100 GHz Dynamic Channel Equalizer is shipping now and is expected to complete Telcordia qualification by first quarter of 2004 and is priced below $200 per channel in volume.
