LIFETIME OF LOVE TWO HONORED FOR SERVICE TO COMMUNITY.

GRANADA HILLS - Though supporters of the Tierra del Sol Foundation didn't hoist Bud Brown and Tony Torres on their shoulders Friday, they came close.

The two forces behind helping thousands of disabled children and adults got the roast of all roasts at a fund-raiser banquet at The Odyssey Restaurant.

``He is Tierra del Sol, he's our angel,'' said Tierra del Sol Executive Director Steve Miller The name Steve Miller might refer to:
  • Steve Miller (musician), leader of the eponymous Steve Miller Band
  • Steve Miller, Australian musician, of The Moodists and The Sputniks
  • Steve Miller, UK chillout music producer better known as Afterlife
 of Brown, past president of the foundation and one- time Fernando Award winner. ``With a smile and a laugh, he just brings sunshine in every room.''

More than 400 guests gathered at the Odyssey on Friday night to raise an expected $25,000 for the nonprofit Sunland foundation that since 1971 has assisted developmentally disabled youths and adults find work.

``Any cause available for the Valley, he and his name are there,'' Miller said of Torres, owner of Black and White Towing of Pacoima. ``If every business did a tenth of what he does, this Valley would be a piece of heaven on Earth.''

Torres, described as an ``old school'' philanthropist with an iron handshake, also helped found Camino Real Savings and Loan savings and loan n. a banking and lending institution, chartered either by a state or the Federal government. Savings and loans only make loans secured by real property from deposits, upon which they pay interest slightly higher than that paid by most banks. , the first Latino-owned bank in San Fernando. He is also known for his voice as a radio announcer.

``This is a fantastic organization,'' Torres said of the seven-acre Tierra del Sol. ``If you go take a tour of the facility, you'll be touched ... They perform little miracles every day.''
