LIBYA AGREES TO PAY UP TO $2.7 BILLION FOR LOCKERBIE BOMBING.


The government of Libya accepted responsibility last week for the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, last week and agreed to pay up to $10 million to each of the families of those killed.

Once the U.N. sanctions are fully lifted, each family is to be paid $4 million from the account. Libya's admission came in a letter to the U.N. Security Council by Libyan Ambassador Ahmed A. Own. He said "as a sovereign state SOVEREIGN STATE. One which governs itself independently of any foreign power. ," Libya accepts responsibility for the acts of intelligence agent, Abdel Basset Ali Megrahi, who was convicted of plotting to destroy the airliner with a bomb inside a radio.
