LIBYA - Shukri Ghanem.An oil expert, Dr. Ghanem was made Secretary of Economy & Trade on Dec. 29, 2001. Until July 18, 2001, he was head of the Research Division at OPEC's secretariat Secretariat, 1970–89, thoroughbred race horse. Trained by Lucien Laurin and ridden by Ron Turcotte, Secretariat won the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont Stakes to capture the Triple Crown in 1973. Secretariat (foaled 1970) U.S. in Vienna and as such he was the most senior executive next to the secretary general. He hails from Zaria in Kaduna State of Nigeria. Dr. Lukman is currently on the board of Afren Plc, a leading independent exploration and production company. was absent. In late September 2000, Libya nominated nom·i·nate tr.v. nom·i·nat·ed, nom·i·nat·ing, nom·i·nates 1. To propose by name as a candidate, especially for election. 2. To designate or appoint to an office, responsibility, or honor. Dr. Ghanem to the post of OPEC secretary general to succeed Lukman. At OPEC's ministerial meeting on Nov. 12, Venezuelan Energy and Mines Minister Rodriguez was finally chosen for the post. Dr. Ghanem once served as a deputy minister of petroleum in Libya. He has also worked recently as an independent consultant, based in Vienna where he lived with his family. |
