At least 100 people need to self-check their materials for the library to qualify. The drawing is sponsored by 3M Library Systems to encourage patrons to visit the library and discover the new technologies and changes that are in use. The 3M system operates similarly to bank automatic teller machines See ATM. and increases overall library staff efficiency by allowing patrons to manage the labor-intensive task of checking out materials. This creates additional time for library staff to assist patrons one-on-one. National Library Week is a nationwide observance sponsored by the American Library Association American Library Association, founded 1876, organization whose purpose is to increase the usefulness of books through the improvement and extension of library services. . It celebrates libraries and librarians This is a list of people who have practised as a librarian and are well-known, either for their contributions to the library profession or primarily in some other field. and the pleasures and importance of reading, and invites use and support of local libraries. Patrons may also learn about youth services, which include special programs for school-age children and story times for preschool children. The Palmdale City Library is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from noon to 5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
