LIBRARY FRIENDS INSTALL OFFICERS MARY BLY IS SECOND-TERM PRESIDENT.

PALMDALE - Three charter officers of the Friends of the Palmdale City Library were installed as the group's president, first vice president and corresponding secretary.

Mary Bly Mary Bly (born 1962 in Minnesota) is a professor of English Literature at Fordham University who also writes best-selling Regency romance novels under the pen name Eloisa James.

She is the daughter of poet Robert Bly and short-story author Carol Bly.
 took office as president for a second term, Mary Kesselring became first vice president for programs and Jo Kollar was reinstalled as corresponding secretary.

Other officers are Beryl beryl (bĕr`ĭl), mineral, a silicate of beryllium and aluminum, Be3Al2Si6O18, extremely hard, occurring in hexagonal crystals that may be of enormous size and are usually white, yellow, green, blue,  Henderson, second vice president-membership; Bill Bigley, third vice president-ways and means; Susan Porter, recording secretary; Gordon Rogers, treasurer; and Everett Wooden and John Porter John Porter may refer to:
  • John Porter (captain) (fl. 1759), first captain of the first HMS Hercules
  • John Porter (bishop) (fl. 1790s), a Bishop of Clogher
  • John Porter (Pennsylvania politician) (fl. 1810s), a Pennsylvania politician, U.S.
, directors.

Nancy Quelland, Palmdale chief librarian, installed the officers.

During 2002, the organization raised $2,148.39 from used-book sales, recipe book sales and other fund-raisers. The funds were used to support the Fred Strasburg Memorial History Room in the main library and to reprint reprint An individually bound copy of an article in a journal or science communication  children's coloring books for the Youth Library.

The Friends of the Library, now in its 25th year, has raised $100,000 over the years from the sale of used books. In 2001, the friends compiled a 60-page cookbook (programming) cookbook - (From amateur electronics and radio) A book of small code segments that the reader can use to do various magic things in programs.

One current example is the "PostScript Language Tutorial and Cookbook" by Adobe Systems, Inc (Addison-Wesley, ISBN
 with recipes contributed by local residents, selling 10,000 copies.

Membership is $2 for individuals, $5 for families, $1 for junior membership, $15 for patron, $100 for organization or business, and $100 for life membership. For more information, call (661) 538-0349.
