Wireless, a market leader in in-building wireless networking solutions, has installed its InterReach(TM) Unison system in numerous Shands HealthCare hospitals including Shands at the University of Florida Shands at the University of Florida is a teaching hospital at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida and is one of eight hospitals in the Shands HealthCare system. , Shands at AGH, and Shands Jacksonville. Shands HealthCare is affiliated with the University of Florida University of Florida is the third-largest university in the United States, with 50,912 students (as of Fall 2006) and has the eighth-largest budget (nearly $1.9 billion per year). UF is home to 16 colleges and more than 150 research centers and institutes.  and is one of the Southeast's premier health systems. The LGC Wireless solution allows for enhanced wireless coverage and capacity throughout the Shands HealthCare hospitals, facilitating delivery of the highest quality of care.

LGC Wireless systems deliver crystal-clear wireless coverage in over 1.7 million square feet of the frequented areas of the Shands hospitals including operating rooms, neo-natal, patient rooms, and intensive care units. Shands, one of the nations' most progressive healthcare providers, recognized that consistently reliable wireless access would enable their physicians and staff to instantly make and receive calls so they are never out of touch, cut response time, and as a result enhance patient care. LGC's InterReach Unison was first installed in their Gainesville hospital and the exceptional results lead to subsequent installations at Shands at AGH and Shands Jacksonville.

After the Unison system was installed, Shands issued new mobile phones to some of their employees, including their Trauma and Fire Emergency response teams. Now, when an urgent situation arises, a team leader sends out a message using the phone's push-to-talk feature. The system allows for immediate two-way communications and eliminates the need for pagers, which was the communication device formerly used by the emergency response teams.

"The importance of reliable wireless coverage was never more clear than during the last hurricane season in Florida," said Larry E. Benton, director of communications Director of Communications is a position in the private and public sectors. The Director of Communications is responsible for managing and directing an organization's internal and external communications.  for Shands HealthCare. "During and after each hurricane, our wireless coverage remained intact. With each hurricane, Shands was fully operational and accepting new patients with our wireless capabilities acting as a critical element for Shands to provide emergency medical care for our community. Hurricane Ivan and Jeanne further demonstrated the mission critical nature of wireless in healthcare and the resilience of LGC's InterReach Unison system."

"The use of the InterReach Unison product is a revolutionary step for communications in medical facilities," said Ian Sugarbroad, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of LGC Wireless. "Reliance on wireless technology and applications is becoming a fact of life in healthcare. Not only does the InterReach Unison system facilitate instant communication and response among physicians and staff members, it also eliminates concerns for possible cell phone interference with medical equipment within the facility."

LGC Wireless is rapidly becoming the in-building wireless solution of choice for health care facilities, having installed systems in over 65 healthcare facilities throughout the United States.
