LG Hitachi Enters Virtual Tape Library Market in Korea with FalconStor; Distributor to Resell and Distribute VTL with its Portfolio of Storage Products.

LG Hitachi will offer VTL appliances targeted for small, midsize and enterprise businesses. Features important to LG Hitachi include the ability to configure two VTL appliances as an active-active cluster for maximizing service availability and eliminating downtime, as well as the flexibility to support 64 virtual tape libraries, 512 virtual tape drives, and 4,096 virtual tapes.

FalconStor's VTL software leverages industry standard high-speed disk to provision virtual tape drives and libraries via Fibre Channel (FC), iSCSI or NDMP (Network Data Management Protocol) An open standard for backing up data in a heterogeneous environment. Developed by Network Appliance and IntelliGuard Software, NDMP uses a common data format which is written to and read from drivers for the specific disk and  protocol to backup servers attached to an iSCSI/IP or FC storage area network (SAN) to maximize performance and return on investment.
