LG Engineering & Construction Corp. Implementing Intergraph Process, Power & Offshore SmartPlant Foundation.
HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 5, 2004
Solution Increases Engineering Efficiency, Cuts Data
Re-entry and Need for Manual Consistency Checking
LG Engineering & Construction Corp., a leading South Korean global engineering firm, is implementing the SmartPlant(R) Foundation engineering information and workflow management software, the Process, Power & Offshore division of Intergraph Corporation (NASDAQ:INGR) announced today. To increase efficiency and engineering quality, LG E&C is integrating its front-end engineering and design tools by implementing SmartPlant Foundation and The Engineering Framework (TEF), the Intergraph enterprise integration technology. This first phase of the IT project also includes integration of the INtools(R) instrumentation engineering software and the SmartPlant P&ID piping and instrumentation diagram authoring package. A second phase involves migrating the processes and knowledge in LG E&C's own MAGICS project execution system to SmartPlant Foundation.
Technical Manager, Engineering Technology Center, Sung Soo Kim, LG E&C, said, "SmartPlant Foundation helps LG E&C meet client requirements while using proven, commercial software which allows project collaboration with customers. Our engineering work processes will be streamlined through the integration and we expect significant reduction of manual consistency checking and data re-entry for global projects. Ultimately, SmartPlant Foundation will preserve the valuable data already in MAGICS and will become our engineering backbone environment."
SmartPlant Foundation and TEF Create the Plant Lifecycle Information Asset
SmartPlant Foundation (ppo.intergraph.com/infomgmt/sp_foundation.asp) manages the availability, integrity and accuracy of engineering information. It builds an electronic library about a plant and its configuration -structure, tags, assets and documents. It encompasses a plant's initial design and ongoing operating upgrades and modifications, defining and driving electronic work processes, tracking changes and managing engineering revisions. Open, independent data storage and access manages data from both Intergraph and third party authoring applications. The system protects and increases the value of engineering information, regardless of the IT infrastructure in place. Backbone of a common architecture that extends across all Intergraph Process, Power & Offshore information management solutions, SmartPlant Foundation enables collaborative engineering and the creation of the plant information asset for strategic business advantage.
The Engineering Framework (TEF) is an enterprise-wide engineering integration technology, bundled exclusively with SmartPlant Foundation. The technology (ppo.intergraph.com/lifecycle/tef.asp) enables the flow and exchange of data as it moves among engineering and design applications and provides information and change management and version control in addition to global data access and reuse. The growing number of TEF-enabled applications include SmartPlant 3D, SmartPlant P&ID, INtools(R) and third-party software.
