Silicon Jack is Right

IN THE APRIL April: see month.  ISSUE, I WAS HAPPY TO READ the Silicon Jack column ["Tax Reform Now!"). He's right. There are literally millions of lower and middle class people who pay taxes--with no visible benefit. I speak from experience, as an American who lives in Sao Paulo, Brazil. It is puzzling for me why we do not see much more on the international tax questions that are pervasive.

While I find the entire magazine to be particularly enlightening, I especially appreciate the Panorama section each month. Working in the software market for Latin America Latin America, the Spanish-speaking, Portuguese-speaking, and French-speaking countries (except Canada) of North America, South America, Central America, and the West Indies. . I am continuously amazed at the level of advancement in some areas of the local business environment while, at the same time, the almost complete lack of development in other key areas.

From Pole to Pole Pole to Pole is an eight-part television documentary travel series made for the BBC and released in 1992. The presenter is Michael Palin, this being the second of Palin's major journeys for the BBC.

I REALLY ENJOY READING YOUR MONTHLY magazine coverage of business issues in Latin America. I was wondering if, with the Free Trade Area of the Americas The Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) (Spanish: Área de Libre Comercio de las Américas (ALCA), French: Zone de libre-échange des Amériques (ZLÉA), Portuguese: Área de Livre Comércio das Américas  (FTAA FTAA Free Trade Area of the Americas

Capital Flight

THANKS FOR YOUR JANUARY 2001 article, "Capital Flight," which was reprinted in the January 25 edition of The Houston Chronicle. The story included information from a study by Aviation Management Services that showed Continental as the third largest U.S. airline operating in Latin America, with a 15.4% share of Latin American revenues for U.S. carriers in 1998.

We thought you would want to know that Continental Airlines surpassed United Airlines to become the No. 2 U.S. air carrier to Latin America in number of destinations and passengers. Continental offers service to 47 cities and 20 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.
