Helping build up Golden Valley

It was refreshing to read Gerry Gittelson's Sept. 6 ``Spirit of the Golden Valley Grizzlies The name Grizzlies may refer to:
  • Grizzly bears
  • Memphis Grizzlies (Formerly the Vancouver Grizzlies), a NBA Basketball team.
  • Northside High School football team.
  • Fresno Grizzlies, a minor league triple-a associate of the San Francisco Giants.
.

As parents of an incoming freshman, it was not an easy choice to pass up the obvious and arrange for our son to play at Canyon High, where a more ``seasoned'' program was in place.

We opted to keep our son at the school in our area and help build Golden Valley's future. We know this young team has an uphill battle Uphill Battle was an metalcore band with elements of grindcore and noisecore. The group was based out of Santa Barbara, California, USA. History

, but as your article pointed out, the tenacity and the sheer determination of these kids are virtues that outweigh anything a 9-1 season could teach.

Tonight we witnessed our freshman team play a respectable toe-to-toe match against Burbank. The pride in the visitors' bleachers was overwhelming, and the surprise on the home side was evident. We know we will see great things over the next two years from the new students who remain loyal to the school that centers their neighborhood.

The varsity team In the United States and Canada and UK, varsity sports teams are the principal athletic teams representing a college, university, or high school or other secondary school. Such teams compete against the principal athletic teams at other colleges/universities, or in the case of  still struggled through its match, and it is obvious the mass exodus of talent has still left the senior team crippled. We hope to see a return of players and expect the very talented coaching staff will provide improving results throughout this season.

Our son read your article, and he was motivated by your words. Please keep publishing the positive attributes of these young athletes and keep their motivation high. Cemex mine not worth the trouble

As a resident of Santa Clarita, I believe the Aug. 26 article about the Cemex mega-mine was unduly skewed skewed

Here are the facts:

The Cemex mine will add up to 1,164 big truck trips every day to Los Angeles area freeways.

The mine will increase mining levels up to 1,600 percent or enough gravel and sand removed to fill up the Rose Bowl 127 times.

Cemex's mining water demands will frequently de-water the Santa Clara River Santa Clara River may refer to:

The mine will more than double state air quality standards for particulate emissions and nearly double the state standard for nitrogen dioxides to be exceeded by more than 1.5 times.

Cemex mailing just propaganda

The recent homespun propaganda mailing from Cemex concerning their gravel plant in Soledad Canyon is utter rubbish. Residents of the Sand Canyon-Soledad Canyon confluence are well aware of the current congestion The condition of a network when there is not enough bandwidth to support the current traffic load.

Don't add more trucks to roads

Your recent article failed to articulate that 1.5 percent increase in traffic equals more than 1,100 trucks per day.

If you've ever driven on any of the affected freeways, believe me, you don't want 1,100 more vehicles joining the herd. Plus the Cemex mega-mine will cause state air quality standards for particulate emissions to be exceeded by more than two times, and cause the state standard for nitrogen dioxides to be exceeded by more than 1 1/2 times.

This is unhealthy and unacceptable risk to innocent residents for the benefit of a giant corporation.

Mining operation not welcome here

I can't believe your recent article sounded in favor of the Cemex mining in Santa Clarita Valley.

Why would our community want such a disruptive, polluting and unnecessary business within our city limits?

For those of us who live here it means over 1,000 trucks on our freeways, air pollution from particulate emissions and a negative impact to the Santa Clara River. We live here and do not want this type of business.
