LETTERS TO L.A. LIFE SHE'S WITH ANN LANDERS ON NRA STAND.Apparently Mr. Van de Walle (L.A. Life, Aug. 5) thinks he is the only one entitled to voice an opinion. While he may disagree with Verb 1. disagree with - not be very easily digestible; "Spicy food disagrees with some people" hurt - give trouble or pain to; "This exercise will hurt your back" Ann Landers Esther "Eppie" Pauline Friedman Lederer, better known as Ann Landers (July 4, 1918 – June 22, 2002), was best known for writing the famous syndicated advice column "Ann Landers." For some 45 years, it was a regular feature in many newspapers across North America. re: the NRA NRA (National Rifle Association of America) organization that encourages sharpshooting and use of firearms for hunting. [Am. Pop. Culture: NCE, 1895] See : Hunting and guns, she has every right to express her views even if they differ from his. For the record, Mr. Van de Walle, I agree with Ann Landers regarding the NRA/gun issue, so sue me. - J.G. Martin Granada Hills Dean on TV While reading of the legendary James Dean (L.A. Life, Aug. 5), it brings me back to the time I first became aware of him, which was, ironically, not in a movie but on television in '54 or '55, in a drama on the superb weekly show ``Schlitz Playhouse of Stars Schlitz Playhouse of Stars was a weekly anthology television series, broadcast Friday nights on CBS from 1951 until 1959. The series presented both comedies and drama. The series was sponsored by Schlitz beer. .'' Dean starred in a role which characterized his life and career titled ``The Drifter.'' I said to myself, ``What a great actor ...'' and nearly a half-century later, I still say those words. - Eddie Cress Sylmar Cats trainable I am very offended by writer Glenn Whipp's remark that cats cannot be trained (L.A. Life, July 3). You are very wrong. Evidently you don't know Don't know (DK, DKed) "Don't know the trade." A Street expression used whenever one party lacks knowledge of a trade or receives conflicting instructions from the other party. much about cats, and how smart they are. Don't you ever watch ``Miracle Pets'' on Pax TV? I would suggest you watch it, and you will change your opinion. They are very smart. You can train them to do most anything.
