LETTERS TO L.A. LIFE CONCERTS: BRING THEM BECK TO THE OUTDOORS.Dear L.A. Life: Regarding Daily News music critic Noun 1. music critic - a critic of musical performances critic - a person who is professionally engaged in the analysis and interpretation of works of art Fred Shuster's positive review of Beck Hansen's Greek Theatre concert (L.A. Life, May 8): I haven't enjoyed a live show so much since the Beastie Boys Beastie Boys is a hip hop musical group from New York City consisting of Michael "Mike D" Diamond, Adam "MCA" Yauch, Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz and the official DJ for the group Michael "Mix Master Mike" Schwartz. at Cal State Dominguez Hills in 1995. Although I am primarily an '80s brat at 25, Beck's poignant lyrics were intoxicating in·tox·i·cate v. in·tox·i·cat·ed, in·tox·i·cat·ing, in·tox·i·cates v.tr. 1. More people should take in an outdoor concert now and then at one of Los Angeles' marvelous venues. There's nothing quite like it. - Michelle Malik Sherman Oaks Dear L.A. Life: Bless Minnie Driver, David Duchovny and an excellent cast for bringing back the sweet, clean, funny and romantic kind of movie that I loved as I was growing up. ``Return to Me'' has renewed my faith, as a longtime movie fan, that the industry can, in fact, provide a story that I don't have to feel embarrassed to sit through with members of my family of all ages. In 1996, we attended 90 movies. Our attendance has gone down, year by year since, as the bad language, moral content and violence have continued to escalate. Obviously the industry is playing to a younger generation, and that would be acceptable if some of the ``old-fashioned'' values could be retained. We love the movies - let us have more like ``Return to Me,'' ``Music of the Heart,'' ``Runaway Bride'' - give us a break. - Rupert G. Ford Burbank |
