LETTERS TO L.A. LIFE BURNS ACTUALLY GOT BENNY.

Bernard Weinraub's article on the popularity of TV bloopers (L.A. Life, Dec. 2) was very entertaining, albeit inaccurate, due to his own inexcusable gaffe.

He states that ``George Burns Noun 1. George Burns - United States comedian and film actor (1896-1996)

 - whenever (Jack) Benny just stared at him.'' Wrong! It was actually the other way around. As George Burns stated on many occasions, ``Jack will laugh at a red hat.'' It was common knowledge among radio audiences and later when TV came along that George Burns was Jack Benny's Achilles heel Achilles heel

, or rib as it were, for he tickled it constantly.

It only took a look from Burns to break Benny up on the air and in private life as well. When Frank Fontaine Frank Fontaine (19 April 1920 – 4 August 1978) was an American comedian and singer.

Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, he is best known for his appearances on television shows of the 1950s and 1960s, including Jackie Gleason's The American Scene Magazine,
(who later became ``Crazy Gugenheim'' on ``The Jackie Gleason Herbert John "Jackie" Gleason (February 26, 1916 – June 24, 1987) was an iconic American comedian, actor, and musician.

One of the most popular stars of early television, Gleason was respected for both comedic and dramatic roles.

Those were wonderful days, filled with unforgettable moments. Let's remember them correctly in reverence to the artists who left such a rich heritage.

The ABCs of 'Brian's Song'

Marie Roberts' complaint about the remake of ABC's ``Brian's Song'' (Letters to L.A. Life, Dec. 16) is well taken, but doesn't go far enough. Made-for-TV movies mimic earlier movie classics all the time. But ``Brian's Song'' was originally a TV movie. Originally seen as a 90-minute segment of ``ABC ABC

It is considered a classic. Why tamper with it? After all, no one has remade re·made

 ``Citizen Kane'' or ``Casablanca.''

But my complaint is different from Roberts'. On July 15, the Daily News ran my letter documenting that the Disney 7 p.m. time period carries many different movies and other types of product. ``Brian's Song'' should have been an ``ABC Sunday Picture Show'' or an ``ABC Movie Special'' or ``ABC Presents'' or anything but ``The Wonderful World of Disney.'' The film's content was just too strong for the Disney family label or even the 7 p.m. time slot.
