LETTERS TO L.A. LIFE : BOX OFFICE DOESN'T TELL WHOLE STORY.

I disagree with Verb 1. disagree with - not be very easily digestible; "Spicy food disagrees with some people"
hurt - give trouble or pain to; "This exercise will hurt your back"
Mr. Rahm's statement that the all-time favorite movie should be based on the number of tickets sold (L.A. Life Letters, March 29). As far as I'm concerned, the all-time favorite movie should be based on what members of the public thought of it when they exited the theater.

I know of two people who walked out of ``Primary Colors those developed from the solar beam by the prism, viz., red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet, which are reduced by some authors to three, - red, green, and violet-blue. These three are sometimes called fundamental colors.

,'' and I, for one, cannot see what enjoyment could be found in watching a fictitious romance based on an incident in which thousands of people died horrible deaths, namely ``Titanic.'' I suspect that the more a movie is ballyhooed, the more people go to see it just to find out what all the hullabaloo is about.

Just because the amount of tickets sold exceeds that of other movies does not necessarily mean it should be classified as an all-time favorite.

Acceptance and enjoyment of gay lifestyle choice

Ann Landers Esther "Eppie" Pauline Friedman Lederer, better known as Ann Landers (July 4, 1918 – June 22, 2002), was best known for writing the famous syndicated advice column "Ann Landers." For some 45 years, it was a regular feature in many newspapers across North America.  proclaims (March 19, L.A. Life) concerning a writer's gay child ``... he didn't GET that way. He was BORN that way.'' That commonly held position is refuted by the gender statistics of identical twins identical twins

If gayness is genetically determined, then identical twins must be either both gay or both straight. They are not; if one twin is gay, there is only a 50 percent likelihood that the other is also gay. Identical DNA DNA: see nucleic acid.

The difficulty with the politically correct politically correct Politically sensitive adjective Referring to language reflecting awareness and sensitivity to another person's physical, mental, cultural, or other disadvantages or deviations from a norm; a person is not mentally retarded, but  approach to gayness is that children who are ``different'' are offered acceptance by the gay community. Being ``different'' is not equivalent to being gay, and it is a fraud to so imply.

Being ``different'' is being ``different.'' No more and no less.

Getting steamed up over steamy local cable story

I was greatly shocked by the Daily News' decision to print such a tasteless, cheesy cheesy (che´ze) caseous.  and pointless story as ``Getting Steamy on Local Cable'' (L.A. Life, March 31). I had assumed that L.A. Life covered stories that benefited people, but obviously I was wrong.

As far as I am concerned, the only people that benefit are those who run those obscene shows and inevitably gain ratings and profit as a result of your underestimation of the power of words on paper. Anyone with common sense could surely inform you that when you report on shows like ``Colin's Sleazy Friends,'' many are going to tune in and watch. When people watch, these filthy shows stay on the air when they should be off instead. This story basically told me: We support this kind of entertainment.

Another thing: What makes you honestly think that people would actually want to read a story like this? I am not a religious fanatic nor a determined feminist; I am just a normal person with normal likes and dislikes, one of my dislikes being stories about an obese and sickening man ``feeling up'' a porno star's breasts and showing his bare bottom on television.

TV content demands action by families

Re: ``Ratings rise as TV gets seamier'' (April 6, Daily News):

What has happened to our family morals? Is money the only object in our lives? We use the TV as a baby sitter, not monitoring what our children watch. And then we wonder where they get the idea to murder each and have sex in their teens.

The public must stand up to this abuse. Avoid buying products advertised on these shows. Turn off the TV; spend time with family members. Be good examples by not watching the seamy seam·y
