LETTERS SIMPLE METHOD FOR SAFE DRIVING.

The Daily News' June June: see month.  3 roadside crosses article was very sad, especially since most intersection intersection /in·ter·sec·tion/ (-sek´shun) a site at which one structure crosses another.

a site at which one structure crosses another.
collisions are easily preventable by using a simple technique.

Never rely on cross traffic stopping or right-of-way Right-of-way or right of way may refer to:

In geography:
  • A situation in which although a parcel of land has a specific private owner, some other party or the public at large has a legal right to traverse that land in some specified manner.
laws. Rely only on your visual scanning left and right before entering any intersection. The scanning continues while entering. That requires 100 percent concentration at every intersection.

That kept me safe in 60 years of driving. Also foot or hand over brake in close traffic.

< $3 monthly tax will fund many projects

Recent news articles called the city of Palmdale's plan to develop new recreation facilities a ``Vision for the Future.'' I would like to offer some additional information.

If voters approve a property assessment of about $3 per month the design process will begin immediately for the facilities on both the east and west sides of the city.

It is estimated that the design of the east and west side recreation centers, east and west side covered swimming pools, an east side aquatic park Aquatic Park may refer to:
  • Aquatic Park (Berkeley) in Berkeley, California, United States
  • Aquatic Park (San Francisco) in San Francisco, California, United States
  • Aquatic Park (Toronto) in Toronto, Canada
, west side amphitheater amphitheater (ăm`fəthē'ətər, ăm`pə–), open structure used for the exhibition of gladiatorial contests, struggles of wild beasts, sham sea battles, and similar spectacles.  and softball softball, variant of baseball played with a larger ball on a smaller field. Invented (1888) in Chicago as an indoor game, it was at various times called indoor baseball, mush ball, playground ball, kitten ball, and, because it was also played by women, ladies'  complex may take nine months to one year to complete.

The east side facilities will be located at 40th Street East and Avenue S and the west side facilities will be located at 30th Street West and Rancho ran·cho

Construction of these amenities will begin on each side of town shortly after the design is reviewed by the citizens oversight

committee and approved by the city.

Construction sequencing will depend on several factors, but it is the city's intent to complete construction of all the new facilities as early as the end of 2004 or the beginning of 2005.

Some residents have inquired about development of baseball fields in Palmdale. The city is aware of this need, and baseball fields are included in future plans. The fields could be located at Marie Kerr Park in its Phase II development, at the 40th Street East/Avenue S site, or at the Yellen Park site near 50th Street East and Avenue S, east of Wal-Mart.

Palmdale's parks and recreation staff can be reached at (661) 267-5611 and are available to provide voters with any information they need to make an informed decision when sending in their ballots.

They're not liberals, they're socialists The following is a list of self-identified socialists, divided by geographical location.

We need to start calling liberals ``socialists.'' We need elected officials in Sacramento to start practicing fiscal responsibility.

We have had 40 years of socialism socialism, general term for the political and economic theory that advocates a system of collective or government ownership and management of the means of production and distribution of goods. , Republican/liberals, Democrat/liberals in Sacramento, and that is enough.

State, county and city taxes have caused many manufacturing plants to move, not to mention big labor Big labor (sometimes capitalized as Big Labor) is a term used to describe large organized labor unions, particularly in the United States.

The term is almost always used in a negative or derisive sense; union members are almost never likely to say that they are proud
.

Businesses can no longer put up with the entire burden placed on them. When in this state 56 cents of every dollar is taken for permits, fees and taxes, people cannot survive on the 44 cents that is left.

You people want higher wages. Why not ask for some of your money back from Sacramento? You also could ask Gov. Davis to ask all state employees to take a 10 percent cut in pay.

The retired people living on Social Security are possibly down to one meal a day. Government does not earn money; they only get money through permits, taxes and fees.

Gov. Davis will balance the state budget by taking money from the counties, cities, schools, districts and pension funds. Then he will say, ``The counties, cities, schools, districts raised taxes, not me.''

I have been a resident of California California (kăl'ĭfôr`nyə), most populous state in the United States, located in the Far West; bordered by Oregon (N), Nevada and, across the Colorado River, Arizona (E), Mexico (S), and the Pacific Ocean (W).  since 1935. New facilities will benefit everyone

We live in Lancaster but attend recreation programs both here and in Palmdale. We are very excited about Palmdale's Vision for the future and really hope the city's residents support the plan.

We understand that only Palmdale property owners are being asked to pay an assessment while new recreation facilities will benefit individuals and families throughout the community. But if we were asked to contribute $3 a month to watch this vision come to life we would be all for it.

As property owners we want young people to have plenty of places to go in their spare time so they are not tempted to find things to do. As regular attendees at Palmdale's Starlight star·light

As Lancaster residents, we hope our neighbors don't make the mistake of thinking ``just another tax.'' Palmdale's people should be proud of its proactive City Council and city staff who have obviously worked hard over some time to develop something the community really needs.

ceremonies being held in the community following the Sept. 11 incident, it was difficult for anyone to feel celebrative about anything.

The phrase ``now more than ever'' has since become somewhat of a cliche, but that is exactly what the city's staff told themselves and the community when they held the festival - always the second weekend in October - right on schedule.

It was a beautiful weekend and so uplifting to see families and individuals out together enjoying the atmosphere at this annual, traditional event.

The city of Palmdale is committed to providing programs, activities and facilities where members of the community can gather to enjoy peace and harmony during these unpredictable times. We don't see how anyone can vote no on that.

This is your chance to pay little, get a lot

We are senior citizens who have owned a home in Palmdale for nearly 40 years. We are never excited about paying additional property taxes, but we do take the time to consider whether the amount is affordable and what will be gained.

If the city is willing to make a commitment to build new recreation facilities to meet the needs of its increased population, we can't believe anyone with an interest in Palmdale's future would vote against it.

We are concerned about public safety issues and understand that when young people are frustrated frus·trate

1.
a. To prevent from accomplishing a purpose or fulfilling a desire; thwart:
because they can't get into sports programs, or are bored because nothing is offered that interests them, they can cause a lot of trouble.

Having a large variety of recreation programs and room to operate them will help with that concern. We have put a lot into our home and would like to see its property value increased. Another plus is that with senior programs offered at recreation centers on both sides of town, seniors will have somewhere other than the city's one senior center to visit and activities offered closer to home for some.

We hope people pay attention to the details, watch for their ballots, mark ``yes'' and mail them in right away. An opportunity to pay a little to get a lot doesn't come around very often.
