remained the hottest local contests. Ballot Measures 41 and 48, both of which would reduce the state's budget by millions, drew solid opposition in the letters columns. Another letter-generating race was the contest between Alan Leiman and Debra Vogt for a position on the Lane County Circuit Court. Though not directly related to the Nov. 7 election, several letter writers suggested that a field burning ban initiative should be circulated if no action to curb field burning takes place in the Legislature.
