What's on readers' minds: The issue attracting the most comment this week was the new road fee adopted by city councils in Eugene and Springfield, which was the subject of 12 letters - most of them critical. Nine people wrote about Measure 28, the proposed state income tax surcharge on the ballot next month. Other topics included KUGN-AM radio's decision to drop the "Savage Nation" program in favor of a local call-in show, PeaceHealth hospital's plans to build in Springfield and Sen. Trent Lott's remarks at Sen. Strom Thurmond's 100th birthday celebration.
