LETTERS IN THE EDITOR'S MAILBAG.

Byline: The Register-Guard

Actions have consequences

Heath Wilkinson's July 10 letter regarding the unfortunate incident between the police officer and the young auto thief was right on the money. The only thing that would have been more to the point would be for The Register-Guard to put the letter on the front page and not on the editorial page.

There are a lot of people in this world who need to think about what the letter said: "consequences of your actions."

No surprise Rove outed Plame

However, I can't help but lament the fact that Miller has never suffered any official censure for her criminally unethical reporting before the U.S. invasion of Iraq. Miller wrote extensive stories about Iraqi weapons of mass destruction Weapons that are capable of a high order of destruction and/or of being used in such a manner as to destroy large numbers of people. Weapons of mass destruction can be high explosives or nuclear, biological, chemical, and radiological weapons, but exclude the means of transporting or  based on information given to her by unnamed sources. These pre-war articles by Miller served as one of the most important media contributions to the web of lies woven to draw the American people An American people may be:

For these Bush folks, national security is just another element in the game of hardball politics. But they go too far. They'd have done well to remember a quote from Bush Senior in 1999:

"Even though I'm a tranquil guy now at this stage of my life, I have nothing but contempt and anger for those who betray the trust by exposing the name of our (intelligence) sources. They are, in my view, the most insidious of traitors."

U.S. Christians support Israel

M. Reza Behnam's letter of June 29 titled "Sen. Smith is a servant of Israel" is an affront to our senator and his diligence in representing us all in the Congress.

Since our founding, the people's representatives reflect the wishes and convictions of their constituents, and those wishes today are greatly in favor of Israel.

This is especially true of evangelical Christians This is a list of people who are notable due to their influence on the popularity or development of evangelical Christianity or for their professed Evangelicalism.

, who are Israel's friends.

To a large degree, this reflects many Americans' strong Christian faith and their belief in the Bible and God's covenant with the Jewish people.

Until democracies can one day function in the Middle East, Israel's enemies are almost single-mindedly dedicated to its total destruction.

They are arming themselves today with the most advanced weaponry and - with Behnam's former Iran at the forefront - are feverishly pursuing the Holy Grail of nuclear weapons.

Sadly, the Behnams in our midst don't seem to understand the democratic processes at work.

Porter's actions led to shooting

In regard to the shooting of Jason Porter, I have a great deal of sympathy for his mother, Kelly Porter. No mother should have to have this happen.

However, Jason made decisions that led to the fatal accident. He is responsible for his actions.

He was 15, stole a vehicle and fled when the patrolman signaled for him to stop.

Unfortunately, the citizens of Springfield and the City Council bear some responsibility in not funding the police force adequately.
