LETTERS IN THE EDITOR'S MAILBAG.Byline: The Register-Guard Bush didn't receive every vote In its May 19 Oregon primary election results report, The Register-Guard listed George W. Bush as receiving 100 percent of the Republican votes. The Republican ballot listed two choices for president. The second line was for write-in votes. We know for a fact that Bush did not receive 100 percent of the votes, because we both wrote in Sen. John McCain For McCain's grandfather and father, see John S. McCain, Sr. and John S. In addition to clarifying that Bush did not receive 100 percent of the vote, we would like to know if there were other write-in votes or Republican ballots with no choice for president. KEVIN HORNBUCKLE Eugene Editors should run for president After reading several Register-Guard editorials giving advice to President Bush, a brilliant idea occurred to me this morning on the way to work. Obviously, there are better qualified persons in the editorial department to be our president than either Bush or Sen. John Kerry Based on that, I urge the newspaper's staff to select one of its editors - the most charming person in the group - and promote him or her to be our next president. LOUIS W. Nothing could be further from the truth. Chief Robert Lehner arrived a few months ago and began the process of reviewing the manner in which internal investigations are received and investigated. I listened to him speak to the Eugene Police Commission and articulate that he doesn't understand how some conclusions were drawn by investigators, or what led them to those conclusions. The citizens of Eugene can take comfort in knowing that the police union will work with the department and, if necessary, the police commission throughout this process. The police union believes an internal process with integrity that applies fair and balanced "Fair and Balanced" is a trademarked slogan used by American news broadcaster Fox News Channel.
