Ban alcohol sales at Autzen

I was born into an Oregon Duck family, I am an Oregon alum and a loyal fan of the football team.

I love watching football; however, the excessive drinking in Autzen Stadium leading to belligerence bel·lig·er·ence

The University of Oregon The University of Oregon is a public university located in Eugene, Oregon. The university was founded in 1876, graduating its first class two years later. The University of Oregon is one of 60 members of the Association of American Universities.  does not support excessive alcohol consumption, but it turns a blind eye during home games, which is bound to someday result in a horrible accident. In 1996, the University of Colorado University of Colorado may refer to:
  • University of Colorado at Boulder (flagship campus)
  • University of Colorado at Colorado Springs
  • University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center
  • University of Colorado system
at Boulder banned alcohol sales within the stadium. The effects of the ban were studied, and it was found to have no effect on ticket sales or enjoyment of the game. The ban did reduce arrests, ejections and assaults.

Please support banning alcohol consumption at Autzen Stadium this fall. Let's make Oregon football a family event - before someone dies.

Misguided policies lead to war

The Rev. Edgar Peara's guest viewpoint (Register-Guard, June 6) did the best job I have seen in four years of succinctly stating why our war on terrorism Terrorist acts and the threat of Terrorism have occupied the various law enforcement agencies in the U.S. government for many years. The Anti-Terrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996, as amended by the usa patriot act  and our war in Iraq are misguided and likely to both be unsuccessful.

By refusing to accept war as a normally justified and successful approach to international dispute resolution, while at the same time explaining why he and so many others willingly put their lives on the line in Europe and the Pacific during World War II, Rev. Peara clearly makes the distinction between the necessity for war in that historic setting vs. the futility of war as an answer to the anger produced by large-scale Muslim illiteracy and joblessness.

Sixty years ago, in his book titled "Civilization on Trial," world renowned historian Arnold J. Toynbee

told us to expect an upcoming titanic clash between the West and the Muslim world.

Toynbee lays out some of the same reasons for that expected conflict as does Rev. Peara for the current one. The University of Oregon Knight Library still has a copy of this very worthwhile book.

Unfortunately, U.S. policymakers obviously didn't pay much attention to that world-class intellect. I hope somehow Rev. Peara's suggestions can both reach and be implemented by today's American leaders.

If they are not, I am even more afraid that Toynbee was right in predicting a western vs. eastern civilization Armageddon.

Kucinich pursuing impeachment impeachment, formal accusation issued by a legislature against a public official charged with crime or other serious misconduct. In a looser sense the term is sometimes applied also to the trial by the legislature that may follow.

Regardless of what the past six years have taught us about the abysmal failure of moral and intellectual fiber in our national leadership, there are still people of intelligence, courage and integrity in government.

Rep. Dennis Kucinich is such a person.

Vice President Dick Cheney is his polar opposite, and I'm proud to know that Kucinich is not afraid to call a nasty little dwarf by his true name.

In April, Kucinich introduced House Resolution 333, calling for articles of impeachment Formal written allegations of the causes that warrant the criminal trial of a public official before a quasi-political court.

In cases of Impeachment, involving the president, vice president, or other federal officers, the House of Representatives prepares the articles of
to be sent to the U.S. Senate with regard to Vice President Cheney.

The grounds are that the vice president fabricated a threat of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction Weapons that are capable of a high order of destruction and/or of being used in such a manner as to destroy large numbers of people. Weapons of mass destruction can be high explosives or nuclear, biological, chemical, and radiological weapons, but exclude the means of transporting or , purposely manipulated the intelligence process to deceive the citizens and Congress of the United States Congress of the United States, the legislative branch of the federal government, instituted (1789) by Article 1 of the Constitution of the United States, which prescribes its membership and defines its powers.  about an alleged relationship between Iraq and al-Qaeda and has threatened aggression against the Republic of Iran absent any real threat to the United States, all in detriment to the national interest of the United States.

If that isn't enough to make a Rumplestiltskin-like Cheney stomp his oil-soaked boots through the White House floor, I don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)

"Don't know the trade." A Street expression used whenever one party lacks knowledge of a trade or receives conflicting instructions from the other party.
what is - and I take great pleasure in that fantasized image.

However, I would take even more pleasure and feel 100 per cent safer if Cheney were brought to account and impeached for crimes against America and her citizens.

I appreciate Dennis Kucinich's diligent work and efforts to honestly serve and protect us.
