LETTERS A FILM'S EARNINGS DO NOT ALWAYS REFLECT SUCCESS.

Regarding Julian T. Nguyen's letter (March 3), since when does movie gross always indicate whether a film or actor has merit or not? Just because two teeny-bopper movies grossed more at the box office the past couple of weeks, this does not indicate that these types of movies represent the taste of all moviegoers.

``Shoot-'em-ups'' are not particularly my cup of tea, but I loved the ``Die Hard'' movies and ``The Whole Nine Yards.'' My friends and I are planning on seeing ``Hart's War'' because Bruce Willis Walter Bruce Willis (born March 19, 1955) is an American actor and singer. He came to fame in the late 1980s and has since retained a career as both a Hollywood leading man and a supporting actor, in particular for his role as John McClane in the Die Hard series.  is in it. We find him very entertaining. And what about ``The Sixth Sense''? Was that kind of a movie a box-office failure?

How could the headline ``The public has spoken, Bruce and Arnold ...'' have been used? One man's opinion does not constitute the public.

'Damned' if you do

I would like to comment on Bob Strauss' horrible review of ``Queen of the Damned'' (Feb. 22).

I agree with him that the film was bad, but to blame the novels for this? Has Mr. Strauss ever read them? Blaming the best-selling best·sell·er also best seller

``Overly plotted''? They decided to combine two of her books.

``Silly''? Really, Mr. Strauss, perhaps you should read more than the back cover of a book.

``Goth''? Look, it was the director who decided to give it that MTV/goth air to appeal to pop culture, not Anne Rice.
