LETTERS : DISABLED SHOULDN'T BE LABELED IN SOCIETY.

The July 26 headline, ``Retardation retardation: see mental retardation.  benefit rakes in $178,000,'' was poorly framed.

Individuals with disabilities are forever labeled by the appearance of what is wrong with them. What about a positive reflection? How much different would the image be if the headline simply said, ``Community pulls together and rakes in $178,000''?

The difference is truly astounding a·stound
tr.v. a·stound·ed, a·stound·ing, a·stounds
To astonish and bewilder. See Synonyms at surprise.

[From Middle English astoned, past participle of astonen,
. Instead of highlighting differences, we now reflect the image of a true community - people helping people.

I believe in laws and safety first, but misfits do not. Maybe it is possible for a new safe freeway. Let's have a membership drive for all those who would like to drive on the Finnigan's Fantastic Freeway. Thus, our new members will enjoy 65 mph as it is meant to be.
