LEO CAREY NAMED VICE PRESIDENT/GENERAL MANAGER OF DELAWARE VALLEY HMO

 PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Delaware Valley HMO (DVHMO), a subsidiary of Independence Blue Cross, today announced the appointment of Leo Carey to the newly created position of vice president/general manager.
 In this position, Carey will head DVHMO's insurance activities in New Jersey.
 "The creation of this position will assist us in fulfilling our need for an HMO structure which will broaden our provider network and better serve our customers on a regional basis," said G. Fred DiBona Jr., DVHMO board chairman, and president and chief executive officer of Independence Blue Cross. "Leo will bring great strengths and insights to this new endeavor. I am confident that under his leadership, DVHMO will begin to make great strides in New Jersey."
 Carey has served for many years in a series of increasingly responsible positions in the health care industry. He comes to DVHMO from CIGNA Healthplan Inc. where, as vice president and executive director, he was responsible for the overall CIGNA Healthplan operations in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. Prior to that, Carey was vice president of Operations and Sales for DVHMO and director of Plan Operations for Rutgers Community Health Plan.
 Carey has a B.A. in sociology from Siena College in Albany, N.Y. He earned an M.S.W. degree at Boston College and he holds a certificate in HMO management from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
 DVHMO operates in Delaware and New Jersey and provides a full range of managed care services.
