LEISTER Technologies Leister Process Technologies is a company based in Sarnen, Switzerland. The company was founded in 1949 by German Karl Leister. The company makes hot air based tools including industrial heaters, blowers and hot air welding tools. , LLC (Logical Link Control) See "LANs" under data link protocol.

LLC - Logical Link Control
offers the broadest range of laser plastic welding Plastic Welding is the process of welding plastic parts together. There are several techniques: Hot gas welding
This is the plastic welding technique equivalent to gas welding. However, the techniques are only vaguely similar.
systems--from stand-alone lab units to integrated OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  systems for production.

Laser welding Laser welding

Welding with a laser beam. The primary apparatus is the continuous-wave, convectively cooled CO2 laser with either oscillator/amplifier (gaussian output beam) or unstable resonator (hollows output beam) optics.
is accomplished by passing laser light through a top, laser transparent plastic material and onto a bottom, laser absorbent absorbent /ab·sor·bent/ (-sor´bent)
1. able to take in, or suck up and incorporate.

2. a tissue structure involved in absorption.

3. a substance that absorbs or promotes absorption.
material where the 940 nm light is transformed into heat. Since the parts are clamped together, the heat is conducted into both the top and bottom parts, where it softens and melts both parts, creating a weld.

There are many benefits associated with the laser welding of plastics, such as:

-- Ability to weld dissimilar plastics
    -- No particulate development
    -- Minimal heat affected zone
    -- Small, precise weld line
-- No need for energy directors
    -- Gas tight welding
    -- No surface marring

The Novolas(TM) C Contour system uses a concentrated beam (0.6 mm to 3 mm diameter) whereby the part, or laser head, is moved on a precision XY table, allowing for versatile weld pattern programming. Weld line widths as small as 600 microns with straight edges are achievable. Shaping the beam into a curtain of light (1 mm wide and 14 mm long) and passing it over a mask allows the weld area to be precisely limited to the desired sections. The new Novolas(TM) micro-mask laser welding system offers a unique combination of diode laser See laser diode. , precision mask, and fully automated mask alignment system to generate micro welding seams with freely definable geometries. This is an important breakthrough for micro-fluidic manufacturing. With position resolution of 2 microns and precise laser power control, this system allows for fast, non-contact welding of micro structured plastic parts with high reproducibility and excellent welding quality. Weld line widths as narrow as 100 microns are easily achieved.

LEISTER Technologies, LLC is celebrating their One Year Anniversary by hosting an Open House February 20-21 at their Lab in Schaumburg, IL, 846 East Algonquin Road, Suite 102.

The new equipment can also be seen at the Medical Device & Manufacturing show in Anaheim, CA February 5-7 and at the SAE 2002 World Congress in Detroit, March 4-7.
