LEGAL SERVICES CORPORATION PICKS 10 PROPOSALS FOR $500,000 AWARD
 ON MERIT AND INNOVATION
 WASHINGTON, Aug. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Ten legal services and community programs across the country have been selected to receive a total of $500,000 from the Legal Services Corporation (LSC) in the first round of grant awards for LSC's Meritorious and Innovative Grant Program (MIGP).
 The MIGP solicitation attracted more than 140 proposals seeking in excess in $8 million. Selected by a panel of experts in legal services to the poor, the 10 winning proposals came from:
 New Hampshire Legal Assistance $70,782
 Northern Manhattan Improvement Corporation 37,759
 Legal Assistance Foundation of Chicago 42,759
 Legal Services Corporation of Iowa 42,759
 Georgia Legal Services 63,101
 Tennessee Association of Legal Services 15,081
 DNA -- Peoples Legal Services 75,000
 Legal Aid Society of Albuquerque 75,000
 Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles 30,000
 Western Center on Law and Poverty 47,759
 LSC President Jack O'Hara said, "We expect our grants to these programs will help in the development of new and successful models for providing effective and high quality client representation."
 The actual awards will be made following the required 30-day comment period, which will expire on Sept. 21, 1992. Following this first successful round, the corporation expects to issue MIGP awards each year.
