LEEDMARK ASSOCIATES VOTE TO RATIFY UNION CONTRACT
GLEN BURNIE, Md., Feb. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Associates of the

Leedmark store in Glen Burnie have voted to ratify a contract with Local 27 of the United Food and Commercial Workers in Baltimore, it was announced today by store and union officials.
The agreement, which is retroactive to Feb. 3, makes Local 27 the bargaining agent for the store's approximately 350 full- and part- time hourly associates.
The vote to ratify the pact was approved by a 90 percent margin, according to Thomas Russow, president of the local. The ratification meeting was held Sunday night at the Holiday Inn in Glen Burnie.
Russow and Leedmark President Thomas Lenkevich said terms of the contract will not be released. They said that when additional Leedmark stores are built in the area, other union contracts will be decided on a store-by-store basis.
Lenkevich said he was pleased with the negotiation process and the terms of the final agreement. "The seven months that it took to conclude our negotiations with the union was a positive and professional experience with positive results for all parties," he said.
Russow said: "Leedmark's enlightened management contributed to the labor negotiations and all meetings and discussions were conducted in a very business-like fashion. We look forward to a long-term relationship with Leedmark and feel that there will be opportunities for the associates and our union members at this and other Leedmark stores that may be built in the future."
The Glen Burnie Leedmark, which opened last May, is the first one-stop shopping hybrid market in the United States. Leedmark combines the best features of 18 different stores and enables consumers to buy all of their basic needs for apparel, non-food and food items under one roof.
Local 27 represents approximately 26,000 members in Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania. Its members work primarily in the retail food and non-food industries for 136 employers.
