Two new books offer snippets of cats in character ``posing'' in historical settings in Japan and Cairo.

Yoshiyuki Yaginuma, photographer for Jana Martins' new book, ``Zen Cats,'' and Lorraine Chittock, shooter of Annemarie Schimmels' pictorial, ``Cats of Cairo,'' have accomplished that very feat.

Included in both books are prose and poetry about cats and their example of simplicity and serenity in living.

The two collections sell for $24.95 each and are the kind of books that make you want to curl up curl
