Sometimes a moment or an event can solidify one's interest, grip their lives and pave a road to success.

``She sees things from another perspective,'' La Reina coach Bob Sisco said of Conway's experience.

``When I came back from that,'' Conway said, ``I knew I could play well. It gave me the confidence to do whatever I set my mind to.''

Tomorrow at the Diamond Bar Golf Club, the junior will have a chance to do some amazing things on her own when she competes in the CIF (1) (Common Intermediate Format) A standard video format used in videoconferencing. ``I've never gotten past there,'' Conway said of her previous two tries. ``It would be nice to make it and then come back next year.''

Conway is certainly on track.

She is more experienced and finely tuned, and has already met two of her goals this year -- to have a scoring average in the 30s (36.6) and lead her team farther than they have gone before (she shot a two-under 70 last Monday at the Southern Section team qualifyer in Oxnard).

``We really wanted to get past the team regionals,'' Conway said. ``We (La Reina) haven't done that in 10 years.''

``Playing golf with her is relaxing,'' teammate and best friend Kristina Cheung said, ``because of her positive attitude. She's uplifting and that helps the team.''

La Reina got eliminated as a team days later in Ojai, but Conway and fellow captain Samantha Katz helped the Regents (12-2), ranked sixth by the Daily News, win the Tri-Valley championship.

Conway will now get to test her individual meddle med·dle
