LEAF TEAMS UP WITH LARRY HARMON'S 'BOZO'; MAJOR CONFECTIONERY
MANUFACTURER ACQUIRES LICENSING RIGHTS FOR NEW PRODUCT LINE
SAN DIEGO, Feb. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Leaf, Inc., one of the country's premier manufacturers of confectionery products, has acquired licensing rights to Larry Harmon's "BOZO" character for a confectionery line in North America, with potential to expand to Europe and the Far East, it was announced here today at the National Candy Wholesalers convention by James Hanlon, president and chief executive officer of Leaf, Inc. North America, and Larry Harmon, creator of TV's "BOZO."
Along with a "BOZO" bubble gum line, several other confectionery products featuring the world-famous clown are being considered, according to the pair who appeared together, along with other Leaf Inc. executives, at a morning press conference.
The "BOZO" licensing agreement brings together the maker of such candy favorites as Jolly Rancher(R) and Rain-Blo(R) bubble gum, Milk Duds(R), Heath(R) Bar and PayDay(R), with the star of the world's longest running children's TV show.
"This is a perfect match for Leaf because 'BOZO' is a favorite of kids of all ages. We're very proud of this new relationship and think it will be a great plus for our products," Hanlon said.
Larry Harmon, creator, owner and licensor of "BOZO," added: "We are very pleased to be associated with Leaf. We are very careful in selecting products that carry the 'BOZO' name because it carries enormous weight with parents and children alike. Licensees are 'BOZO' and the products bearing his name. After 50 years in the public eye, the 'BOZO' character represents significant, positive equity and credibility and with Leaf joining our fast-growing company of international licensees, 'BOZO's' track record as a licensed character will be significantly enhanced through our affiliation with a major candy producer like Leaf."
The "BOZO SHOW" has been on TV worldwide for the past 35 years and reaches 150 million TV households globally. In the United States 50 million TV households receive the show daily via over-the-air affiliates in such cities as Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, among others, and over 18,000 local cable systems. Over 200 people have portrayed the character under Harmon's tutelage and an estimated 15 million youngsters have actually attended tapings of the "BOZO SHOW" during its historic long run on stations internationally.
Leaf North America, headquartered in Bannockburn, Ill., manufactures and markets confectionery products throughout the United States and Canada. The company has grown to become one of the country's leading confectionery producers with brands that also include Good & Plenty(R), Switzer(R) licorice and cherry candy, Whoppers(R), and Donruss(R) and Leaf Baseball Cards.
