 LEADING COMMUNICATORS DISCUSS 'BREAKING THE ICE'
 AT IABC SEMINAR MARCH 24
 DETROIT, March 17 /PRNewswire/ -- In today's economic climate, effective communication between management and employees is more important than ever. On Tuesday, March 24, the Detroit Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) will host a half-day seminar on "Breaking the Ice: Making Employee Communication a Valuable Management Resource" at the Radisson Hotel in Southfield.
 Three outstanding leaders in the communication field will lead the discussion. They are Alvie Smith, APR, former director of corporate communications for General Motors and author of "Innovative Employee Communications"; Brad Whitworth, ABC, public affairs manager of Hewlett- Packard's Intercontinental Operations and past chairman of IABC; and Andrea Koterba, director of constituency communications for General Motors. Attendees will learn how to meet rigid communication practices while meeting the employee communication challenges of the '90s. Topics range from validating the contributions of communication and overcoming obstacles to making employee communications a strategic resource and selling a program to management.
 The seminar takes place from noon to 5 p.m.; lunch is included. The cost is $85 for members, $95 for non-members, $45 for students. To register call 313-546-5490.
