LEAD introduces LEADTOOLS Visual Basic Custom Control (VBX) 4.0 Imaging Software Development Toolkit; Toolkit adds image compression and processing to VB, Visual C++ and database applications.

COMDEX The former, premier computer trade show in the U.S. Although it grew into an end user event, it was originally created for dealers and distributors (it was the COMputer Dealers EXposition).  FALL BOOTH M6852--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 14, 1994--LEAD Technologies announced today that it is shipping LEADTOOLS Visual Basic/VBX 4.0, a royalty-free toolkit that allows software developers to add image compression and manipulation to any Visual Basic, Visual C++ or any other application that provides a Visual Basic interface.

"LEADTOOLS Visual Basic 4.0 provides developers the ability to display images and save them in any supported format with the simplicity of changing a control property," said Moe Daher, Vice President of Engineering. "The new VBX (Visual Basic EXtension) A component software technology from Microsoft that enabled a Visual Basic (Windows) program to add functionality by calling ready-made software modules.  supports over 100 new imaging properties, by far the most on the market, and has access to all of the power of our other C language toolkits. Our LEADTOOLS VBX can be used to enhance applications such as image databases, printing and drawing programs, video production systems and the transmission of high quality compressed images over phone lines or across networks.

LEADTOOLS VBX will automatically take care of checking the file format, reading the file, compressing or decompressing the data if necessary, and displaying the image in the window. The VBX includes a property to link to all databases supported by Visual Basic such as Access, dBase, Clipper and Fox Pro. The toolkit supports over 42 file formats including Kodak PhotoCD, PCX (1) A bitmapped graphics file format that handles monochrome, 2-bit, 4-bit, 8-bit and 24-bit color and uses RLE to achieve compression ratios of approximately 1.1:1 to 1.5:1. Images with large blocks of solid colors compress best under the RLE method. See PC Paintbrush. , GIF GIF

LEADTOOLS can also be used as a Windows DLL, (3.1, NT, WIN32s), a DOS executable, or a Visual Basic or Visual C++ custom control. LEADTOOLS supports standard 16-bit Windows development as well as 32-bit development using WIN32s or Windows NT. The royalty-free toolkits start at $495. (There are licensing fees associated with the LEADTOOLS Express versions.) The products are all available directly from LEAD Technologies as well as through authorized distributors and resellers including LifeBoat Distribution, Programmer's Paradise, Programmer's Shop, Provantage, Image Options SoftExport (LEAD Technologies' International Distributor) and Developer's Workshop (LEAD Technologies' Canadian distributor) LEAD Technologies, Inc. is an industry-leader in the field of imagine compression, selling technology to over 2000 developers and OEMs, including Corel Corporation for use in CorelDRAW 4 and CorelDRAW 5 and Inset for use in Hijaak. Other OEM clients include Adobe, ABDick, AT&T, Canon, Compaq, IBM, Kodak, Martin Marietta, Olympus, Prodigy, Sharp Electronics, 3M, Truevision and Xerox. LEAD's products include LEADVIEW 3.0 for Windows, an image management tool aimed at end-users, LEADTOOLS, a family of imaging developer toolkits and TripleSpace, a generic data compression technology aimed at OEMs. Founded in 1990, LEAD is the industry-leading supplier of software development imaging toolkits.
