LEAD: Highlights of Wen Jiabao's speech at Japan parliament

The following are highlights of a speech visiting Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao delivered at the Japanese parliament Thursday.

-- I hope this visit to Japan will help melt ice between China and Japan; Objective is to boost friendship and cooperation.

-- The Sino-Japan war left indescribable scars and pain in Chinese people's hearts, also gave enormous suffering and pain to Japanese people.

-- Only a handful of militarists should take the blame for the war and ordinary Japanese people were also victims of the war.

-- The Chinese government and people want to promote future-oriented ties with history as mirror.

-- Japan formally admitted to wartime aggression and expressed deep remorse and apology, and the Chinese government and people highly credit it.

-- China wishes Japan to demonstrate the remorse and apology with actual concrete actions.

-- China will not forget support and assistance rendered by Japan in reforms and modernization.

-- Leaders of both countries agreed to create a mutually beneficial relationship based on common strategic interests.

-- China will not tolerate Taiwanese independence; China wants Japan to cautiously deal with the Taiwan issue recognizing its sensitivity.

-- Both countries should proactively advance the process of dialogue over gas exploration in the East China Sea, setting aside disputes, take substantive steps for peaceful solution, and make the East China Sea a sea of peace, cooperation and friendship.

-- China recognizes economic growth in both countries not as threat but as chance for both sides.

-- Japan and China need to maintain peace and security in Northeast Asia and deal with development of Asia.

-- China understands Japan's wish to play a bigger role in the international community; China is ready to strengthen dialogue over U.N. Security Council reforms.
