LDP unveils new TV commercials, poster featuring Koizumi.
The ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) unveiled Wednesday a series of new TV commercials and a poster featuring Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi in the hope that his popularity will rub off on the party that he leads.
The four TV commercials and poster show close-up images of Koizumi and call on the public to help the premier carry out reforms.
''This is not a challenge Koizumi faces alone,'' the premier says in one 15-second commercial which starts out with a close-up shot of the premier and then shows him folding his arms in a full-length image.
''This is a challenge for each person of the nation. I ask for strength for Koizumi's challenge. This is the new LDP.''
The commercials use the same background music -- ''Forever Love'' by X Japan, a disbanded heavy metal group that Koizumi is fond of.
''From watching other commercials, I noticed that you tend to pay attention if the music is good,'' said the leader, who suggested the music piece after learning that the commercials were to be aired without music.
The commercials will be aired for about a month from Sunday. The poster will be distributed to LDP local chapters from around Monday, the party said.
Koizumi, who swept to power in April promising reform, has seen his record high support ratings -- around 80% when he took office -- rise to over 90% in one TV opinion poll this week. Support for his party, however, is around 30% in many polls.
