Vowing to slow growth in Thousand Oaks, the two kicked off their campaign before more than 50 supporters at Triunfo Community Park on the first day to take out papers to run for the council. Planning Commissioner Jim Bruno also took out nomination papers.

``It's no secret anymore that Linda Parks and I are running for Thousand Oaks City Council,'' said Masry, to a burst of applause from the audience. ``What's more important, we are going to win it.

``We are going to take the city back from the pro-development (council) majority that consistently give developers a waiver The voluntary surrender of a known right; conduct supporting an inference that a particular right has been relinquished.

Masry, who's never before run for public office, won't have much of a problem with name recognition. Actor Albert Finney portrays the flamboyant attorney in the hit movie ``Erin Brockovich.''

Councilman Michael Markey, who's often painted by critics as pro-development and who will seek re-election, was on vacation and unavailable for comment.

``Together, we will have a much stronger voice,'' said Parks, who is often on the losing end of council votes.
