LAWSON DEMONSTRATES CLIENT/SERVER SOFTWARE ON WINDOWS NT AT COMDEX

LAS VEGAS, Nov. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Lawson Software today announced its commitment to develop client/server software applications to support the Microsoft(Windows NT(a) operating system. Lawson is demonstrating its client/server software, Open Enterprise Release, on the new Microsoft environment at the Mircosoft booth No. L2308 at COMDEX/Fall 1993 in Las Vegas.
Developing applications for Windows NT is an example of the Minneapolis-based company's commitment for to protect its clients' investment in business applications software according to Mark Galloway, product marketing director for Lawson.
"Our goal is to be able to respond to our customers' future needs regardless of which operating systems they later choose," Galloway said. "We believe Windows NT has the potential to establish a strong market for itself and we intend to be well positioned to support it."
Lawson is one of the few software developers who are using the Win 32 development kit, taking advantage of Windows NTUs powerful 32-bit native architecture. Other developers using 16-bit architecture will have to redesign their client/server applications to succeed on Windows NT, according to Galloway.
The company's strength in developing applications for the Microsoft system, according to Galloway, is its abilities to take the methodology used successfully in UNIX environments and apply it to Windows NT.
"Applying our Open Enterprise Release to Windows NT will provide tremendous flexibility for companies and people who use computers," Galloway said. "Once our applications are operational, we expect users to see a significant increase in productivity and corporations to see a significant decrease in systems integration costs."
Lawson's client/server applications are grouped under the name Open Enterprise Release and include Lawson Accounting, Human Resources, Distribution Management Systems and Lawson UNIVERSE(a) Products.
A Nov. 1, 1993 report in COMPUTERWORLD rated Lawson highest in overall buyer satisfaction among top software vendors providing UNIX- based accounting systems to Fortune 500 companies. In 1992, it was one of four companies to win IBM Mark of Quality Award. Approximately 4,000 companies were eligible.
