 LAWRY'S CELEBRATES AFRICAN AMERICAN CUISINE;
 HERITAGE HOME COOKING RECIPES OFFERS A TASTE FOR ALL SEASONS
 LOS ANGELES, April 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The final judging of the first Heritage Home Cooking Recipe Contest hosted by Lawry's Foods Inc. will take place Wednesday, April 8, from noon to 2 p.m. at the California Federal Building, 5670 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 2400, Los Angeles. The contest celebrates the rich heritage shared by African Americans nationwide.
 While conducting the contest, Lawry's tapped into the reservoir of culinary talent reflected in the communities around the Los Angeles area. Following extensive testing and tasting, Lawry's narrowed more than 100 African American heritage recipe submissions to 13. The recipes included African Greens, Southern Fried Chicken Salad, Spicy Rice Salad, Red Beans and Rice Cole, Salmon Bisque, White Stew, Oxtail Soup, Seasoned Toast Snacks, Sweet Potato Wedges, Honey Glazed BBQ Chicken Wings, Creole Chicken, Glazed Citrus Chicken and Mushroom Garlic Pot Roast.
 The recipes will be judged at the event by local chefs, food writers, restaurateurs and celebrities including KNBC's Christopher Nance, Aunt Kizzy's Adolf Dulan, Chef Joe Randall, National Public Radio's Dr. Gerda Steele, KKBT's Cliff Winston, Delta Sigma Theta's Beverly Reynolds, LA Sentinel's Libby Clark, Pasadena Journal's Evelyn Bomar and The Wave's Kim Cohn. Also attending the event will be actress Marla Gibbs and representatives from NAACP, National Council of Negro Women, California Afro-American Museum and Delta Sigma Theta Inc.
 The Lawry's Heritage Home Cooking Contest highlights the significance of food as a cultural medium in the African American culture. The contest's winning entries will be featured in the upcoming cookbook, "A Taste for All Seasons," prepared in partnership with Audubon Middle School and the Los Angeles Delta Sigma Theta Inc. sorority.
 The Heritage Home Cooking Recipe Contest is just one part in a series of programs developed by Lawry's incorporating cultural and educational activities, which celebrate the splendid heritage and culinary expertise of the African American community. The recipe contest is also part of Lawry's on-going recognition of the community's loyal use of seasoned salt in traditional home-cooking.
 Additional elements of the Lawry's program include a gospel competition, "Lawry's Seasonal Singers Search," an on-going program to participate and support the Los Angeles and Pasadena Alumnae Chapters of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., in its community outreach endeavors and a school program where Audubon Middle School students researched and developed essays and artwork on the importance of food in the African, Caribbean and Latin American cultures. These essays will also be featured in the "A Taste for All Seasons." By sponsoring programs like the recipe contest, Lawry's is demonstrating its commitment to helping the community's efforts in portraying strong, positive images of the black family, church and civic organizations.
