Recovering from a broken back and unable to compete, Trimble cheered as each ``cowboy'' tried to subdue the uncooperative animals.

``This is addicting. My friends say I'm crazy "I'm Crazy" is a short story written by J. D. Salinger in 1945 for Collier's magazine. From all his short stories involving Holden Caulfield, this one is most similar to Catcher In The Rye, as it simply recounts well-known scenes with Mr. , but this is fun,'' Trimble said.

The Showdown was part of a community safety expo presented by the national Police Rodeo Association and Municipal Motorcycle Officers of California.

With temperatures blazing throughout the day, the show was a hit among the thousands who descended onto the grounds in Castaic.

``We've been working on this for a few months,'' said Mary Beth Scholz, the assistant event coordinator.

The daylong showdown and expo featured Silver the Wonder Horse, who dazzled the young and old with his ability to play soccer and pretend to be dead.

The expo, which continues today along with the rodeo, offered display booths from the Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County Sheriff's Department's Substance Abuse Narcotics narcotics n. 1) techinically, drugs which dull the senses. 2) a popular generic term for drugs which cannot be legally possessed, sold, or transported except for medicinal uses for which a physician or dentist's prescription is required.  Education program, the SANE Kids Basketball Challenge, a dunk booth, the sheriff's search and rescue team, traffic safety, and disaster preparedness.

On the east side of the rodeo grounds, the county Department of Animal Care and Control offered dogs and cats for adoption.

``They are so cute,'' Scholz said. Pets available were given tags which read ``take me home,'' or ``I need a home.''

``This is great,'' said Bruce Ahmadson, an Arizona resident who camped out at the rodeo site overnight. ``The heat doesn't bother me a bit, this is what the Wild West is all about.''

Los Angeles County Firefighter John Tabak, who works at Camp 12 in Castaic, said his family had been looking forward to the rodeo.

``My whole family participates,'' Tabak said. ``My wife does steer dressing and is a ribbon roper while my two sons and my grandchildren all compete.''

Although Tabak was still recovering from a cracked rib from a previous competition, the firefighter said he planned to compete before the weekend was over.

The rodeo and expo will continue today from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a demonstration by the sheriff's Mounted Enforcement Team and the Mounted Posse Color Guard and safety program, including martial arts This is a list of martial arts, broken down by region and style. African martial arts
