is hoping that giving America one-sixth of its ``Friends'' won't translate into one-sixth of the audience.

Thursday at the Television Critics Association's press tour in Hollywood, NBC Entertainment president Jeff Zucker Jeffrey Zucker (born April 9, 1965) is an American television executive, and President & CEO of NBC Universal. He is a 5-time Emmy Award winner known for his aggressive promotion of his network's programs.  announced that a ``Friends'' spinoff starring Matt LeBlanc Matthew Steven LeBlanc (born July 25, 1967) is an Emmy and Golden Globe Award-nominated American actor, best known for his role as Joey Tribbiani in the hugely popular sitcom Friends (1994-2004) and its less successful spin-off Joey (2004-2006). , titled ``Joey,'' would be on Thursday nights on its 2004-05 schedule. LeBlanc's character will move to Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  and presumably pre·sum·a·ble

Zucker declared that Joey ``was America's favorite `Friend.''' He did not offer any hard evidence for this claim, nor was any requested. Had the spinoff starred Lisa Kudrow, Zucker would have no doubt deemed Phoebe America's favorite ``Friend.'' Zucker insisted that the network had not approached any of the other cast members about a spinoff series. An alternate title for the show he joked was, ``Hey, Where Did Everyone Go?''

``Friends'' will air 18 episodes in its 10th and final season. Before the finale, NBC will air six repeats deemed the best of ``Friends'' by viewers via an online poll. Zucker said the announcement was made so early to give the executive producers - Kevin Bright (who has been with ``Friends'' since its inception), and Scott Silveri and Shana Goldberg- Meehan (who have been with the series for four years) - more than a year to develop ``Joey.''

Zucker added that there was a very good chance that Joey might encounter a minority character on his new show. Despite its popularity, ``Friends'' has been widely taunted for its depiction of New York City New York City: see New York, city.
