LARGEST EUROPEAN OUTSOURCING CONTRACT AWARDED TO EDS; COMPANY SELECTED AS STRATEGIC PARTNER TO BRITISH GOVERNMENT'S INLAND REVENUE

DALLAS, Nov. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- EDS (NYSE: GME) has been selected by the British government's Inland Revenue (IR) department as the preferred strategic partner for the outsourcing of Inland's information technology.
The IR is the arm of British government responsible for collecting tax and is comparable to the U.S. Internal Revenue Service.
The agreement, valued at more than $1.5 billion over 10 years, is the largest outsourcing agreement ever signed in Europe. About 2,000 Inland Revenue employees will transfer to EDS in stages when the contract begins in April 1994.
This is the second major contract that EDS has recently won in the U.K. The Driver Vehicle Licensing Agency last week awarded EDS a five- year agreement.
"We are very pleased to have been selected by Inland Revenue. EDS already has significant work with other segments of government, and these most recent wins underline the strength of our public sector business. We are also pleased to welcome the men and women of Inland who will be joining the EDS team," said John Bateman, EDS European Group executive.
John Staples, EDS strategic sales director, said, "With this decision, the Inland Revenue has set an important standard for the achievement of value. We look forward to creating a flagship partnership that will deliver quality and value to the British public."
EDS has operations in more than 30 countries, employs more than 70,000 people and is the leader in applying information technology to meet the needs of businesses and governments around the globe. Stock reflecting EDS' performance is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol GME. EDS reported revenues of $8.2 billion in 1992.
