LARGE SCHOOLS: PETERSON RUNS WILD FOR L.C.

LaVelle Peterson rushed for a school-record 345 yards and five touchdowns, leading La Canada High in a 40-0 nonleague rout over visiting Gabrielino of San Gabriel San Gabriel (săn gā`brēəl), city (1990 pop. 37,120), Los Angeles co., SW Calif.; inc. 1913. Fabric, furniture, paper products, tools, and aircraft parts are manufactured. .

Peterson scored on runs of 4, 15, 83 and 33 yards in first half as the Spartans built a 28-point halftime lead. The 5-foot-9, 210-pound senior, who carried the ball 25 times, added a 1-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter.

Peterson rushed for 236 yards in the first half.

The previous record was 333 yards, set by Sam Paneno against Burroughs of Burbank in 1995.

The Spartans' other touchdown came on John Ondrejcka's 41-yard pass to Brian Kimball.

Oak Park scored three touchdowns in a 1-minute, 56-second span of the fourth quarter to break open a close game and take the lead.

The Eagles led 14-7 when Jay Azzarello intercepted a pass at the Oak Park 16-yard line with 9:13 to play. Shorten scored on a 32-yard run seven plays later, and an interception by Logan Ketchum and fumble recovery by Cory Whelan on Newbury Park's next two possessions led to two more scores and a 35-7 Oak Park lead with 3:49 to play.

Oak Park's defense registered five sacks and forced five turnovers.

Newbury Park (1-2) was led by Colby Cameron, who passed for 205 yards and three touchdowns.

Langston Jackson rushed for 208 yards and a touchdown on 31 carries to lead Simi Valley, setting up the Pioneers' first score with a 74-yard run.

The Pioneers' defense forced three turnovers in the second half, with interceptions by Jack Albert and Adam Hernandez leading to Sergei Danielian's field goals.

Royal 24, Ventura 21: The Highlanders (2-1) rallied from a 14-3 halftime deficit to defeat visiting Ventura (0-3).

    Long sealed the victory with a 1-yard touchdown run with 1:44 remaining.

    Long completed 14 of 32 passes for 251 yards, connecting eight times with McCormick for 202 yards.

    Pasadena 42, West Ranch 20: Tyrone Crockom threw five touchdown passes to lead the Bulldogs (2-1) past visiting West Ranch of Stevenson Ranch Stevenson Ranch, California (in the 91381 ZIP Code) is a Los Angeles County, USA, unincorporated community west of Santa Clarita a few miles south of Six Flags Magic Mountain amusement park. The Stevenson Ranch fountain was redone in 2007.  at Temple City High School.

    Crockom completed 13 of 21 passes for 385 yards and scores covering 12, 64, 53, 48 and 86yards. Receiver Armon Binns caught four passes for 98 yards with two touchdowns.

    West Ranch (2-1) was led by Joseph Spell, who rushed for 75 yards, and L.J. McGee, who ran for 67. McGee's 9-yard touchdown run with eight minutes to play pulled the Wildcats within 30-14.
