LANTRONIX INTRODUCES SINGLE CHIP SOLUTION FOR EMBEDDING NETWORK AND INTERNET CONNECTIVITY FOR DEVICES.

Lantronix Inc. has unveiled its fully integrated semiconductor for embedding Internet and network connectivity into devices.

DSTni (Device Server Technology Network Interface) contains essential hardware components for enabling network connectivity, allowing devices to be remotely monitored and controlled over the Internet or shared networks.

Lantronix will base its next-generation Device Server Technology on the DSTni foundation. Manufacturers are now empowered to build their devices around a single chip solution when they are looking to cost-effectively embed network or Internet connectivity into lighting control systems, alarm systems, home entertainment equipment, factory floor equipment and almost any other electronic device.

DSTni's small footprint (12mm by 12mm ball grid array “BGA” redirects here. For other uses, see BGA (disambiguation).

) supports the highest level of integration, giving manufacturers the ability to network enable their smallest devices.

"DSTni will enter the embedded systems market at a time when demand for productive embedded technology is growing," said Paul Zorfass, senior analyst for embedded systems with research firm IDC/FTI. "Lantronix has put the key elements of network connectivity onto their new semiconductor part, creating an effective single chip solution and solid building block for their entire Device Server product line."

DSTni comes with a complete suite of on-chip peripheral hardware to reduce integration risk and a 96 Mhz processor that will support the most advanced applications. It has two 10/100 Ethernet MACs and an integrated physical layer (PHY See physical layer and physical. ). Additional interfaces include four high-speed serial ports, CANBUS, SPI (1) (Stateful Packet Inspection) See stateful inspection.

"We've leveraged our 11 years of networking experience and engineering expertise to bring a full-featured network-enabling chip to market," said Fred Thiel, chief executive officer, Lantronix. "We believe DSTni will set a new standard for single chip solutions by incorporating key peripheral hardware capabilities on one piece of silicon."

In support of DSTni, Lantronix offers an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  developers' kit that contains the DSTni reference design board and a complete suite of network-enabling software. The software kit includes a real-time operating system (operating system) Real-Time Operating System - (RTOS) Any operating system where interrupts are guaranteed to be handled within a certain specified maximum time, thereby making it suitable for control of hardware in embedded systems and other time-critical applications.  (RTOS (1) (RealTime Operating System) An operating system designed for use in a real time computer system. See real time system, embedded system, process control and OS-9. ) that allows rapid information gathering, data processing, and communications with external devices.

protocol stack that makes Ethernet connectivity easy; a Web server enabling standards-based graphical presentation, access, and control through any Web browser; and a complete set of 'C' libraries and sample source code to fast-track the development cycle. With the OEM developers' kit, and the extensive documentation provided, a well-designed network-enabling solution is at hand.

DSTni is an addition to Lantronix's embedded Device Server product line. Device Server Technology adds intelligence to devices, allowing them to be smarter and leverage the power of networks and the Internet for real-time access to information and device management.
