LAND UNDER KMART IN PLAY OWNER TALKS TO CITY REGARDING FUTURE DEVELOPMENT.

Byline: Angie Valencia-Martinez Staff Writer

SIMI VALLEY Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  - The owner of a prime piece of real estate that is home to the city's only Kmart has met with city officials to discuss the site's future.

With Kmart's lease up in 2007, Corrine Shukartsi recently sought input from city leaders regarding potential development there, but has not made a decision, City Manager Mike Sedell said. Shukartsi could not be reached for comment.

Lisa Gibbons Famous people named Gibbons include:
  • Beth Gibbons (born 1965), British singer
  • Billy Gibbons, guitarist for ZZ Top
  • Cedric Gibbons (1893–1960), American art director
  • Christopher Gibbons (1615 - 1676), English composer, son of Orlando
, a Kmart spokeswoman, said it's too early to tell what the company's plans are beyond 2007, so officials don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)

if they will renew the lease. The store has been in town since the early 1980s.

Brian Gabler, the city's director of economic development, said Shukartsi has been approached by developers who are interested in the 9.27-acre parcel at 51 E. Tierra Rejada Road - near Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  Avenue and Madera Road.

Although, Gabler would not speculate on what kind of projects the city might consider, he did say worker housing is needed. Casden Properties, LLC (Logical Link Control) See "LANs" under data link protocol.

, plans to build 266 homes on a 16-acre site cater-corner from Kmart.

``We didn't make any suggestions,'' he said. ``No one walked away knowing what will happen. We listened. They listened. We talked. They talked.''

Developer Robert D. Selleck of Selleck Properties Inc. arranged the meeting. Selleck's company has built two high-profile projects in the city: the El Paseo El Paseo is downtown Palm Desert's main shopping street. The area around the street has evolved into an upscale shopping district featuring 150 exclusive boutiques, art galleries, and restaurants.  Simi SIMI Sea Ice Mechanics Initiative

commercial center across from City Hall, which includes some housing, and the Civic Center Plaza on Tapo Canyon Road, home of the Regal Theaters.

Selleck said he introduced Shukartsi, a friend of his, to city officials to be helpful, but said at this point he doesn't plan to be involved in any redevelopment of the property.

``We have not or will not be making an offer,'' he said, adding, ``If she were planning to do a retail project, under those circumstances, I'd talk to her.''

Peter Lyons Peter Lyons was born in Ireland about 1734. He graduated from Trinity College, University of Dublin. Following this, he came to King William County, Virginia, and studied law under his uncle, James Power. , the city's deputy planning director, said since the property went on the market officials had informal meetings with developers interested in purchasing the land for residential use.

Selleck has informally proposed a mixed-use project, similar to the El Paseo development on Tapo Canyon Road, Lyons said. But because the land is zoned for commercial use, any type of housing would require a change in zoning.
