LAND ROVER ANNOUNCES PRICING FOR 1993 MODELS; NEW MODEL, REVOLUTIONARY AIR
 SUSPENSION UNVEILED
LANHAM, Md., Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- In a bid to take a bigger share of the sport utility vehicle market, Land Rover North America, Inc. today (Oct. 1) introduces a revolutionary new Range Rover equipped with the world's first height-adjustable air suspension and electronic traction control.

Called the County LWB (long wheelbase), it will join the classic aluminum-bodied Range Rover County and the recently introduced Land Rover Defender 110.
The new model is 8 inches longer, providing limousine-like rear legroom. The flagship County LWB has a new 4.2 liter, 200 hp aluminum V-8 good for zero-to-60 acceleration under 10 seconds and a top speed of more than 110 mph.
Charles R. Hughes, president, Land Rover North America, said, "The U.S. sport utility market is expected to top 1 million units this year for the first time. The new County LWB and its stablemates, the Range Rover County and Land Rover Defender 110, are the finest vehicles of their type and give us strong entries for future growth plans."
Earlier this year, the company embarked on an aggressive expansion plan which included changing its name from Range Rover of North America to Land Rover North America, adding two models to its product line and development of unique retail outlets called Land Rover Centres.
Hughes explained, "The adoption of our parent company's name defines who we are as a company, focuses on the Land Rover brand and heritage and allows us to expand our product offerings."
As Range Rover of North America, the company created the "luxury sport utility vehicle" niche and has sold more than 21,000 of the prestigious vehicles since their introduction in March 1987.
 RANGE ROVER COUNTY LWB
Automotive journalists who have driven the County LWB have called its sophisticated suspension system a major technological achievement. With 5.1 inches of body travel, the County LWB can be lowered for easier entry and exit or raised for severe off-pavement driving and wading. At highway speeds, the body automatically lowers itself for improved drivability and aerodynamics.
The County LWB has a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $49,200.
 RANGE ROVER COUNTY
Entering its third year with no price increase, the 1993 Range Rover County, with an MSRP of $44,500, has a re-tuned high compression engine developing 182 hp, extensive new soundproofing, Electronic Traction Control and a complete list of comfort and convenience features.
 LAND ROVER DEFENDER 110
The U.S. Land Rover Defender 110 is a five-door model with front bucket seats, a rear bench and four folding jump seats in the cargo area for a total passenger capacity of nine.
Equipped with a 3.9 liter, 180 hp V-8 engine, it is the most powerful production Land Rover ever built.
The North American edition is limited to just 500 individually numbered vehicles with a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $39,900.
 LAND ROVER CENTRES
As part of its development process in the U.S., Land Rover North America will establish a new form of retail outlet, called Land Rover Centres, to exclusively offer a line of premium Land Rover-built four- wheel-drive vehicles.
"With the sales expertise, parts and service backup unmatched in this segment," Hughes predicted, "Land Rover Centres will be a 'must' on the shopping list of any four-wheel-drive buyer."
The first Land Rover Centres will be built by some of the company's current 80 U.S. and seven Canadian dealers and will be modeled after similar operations successfully developed in the United Kingdom.
Land Rover North America, Inc. imports vehicles manufactured by Land Rover in Solihull, England, and is a member of Rover Group Ltd.
