LANCASTER COLONY SALES AND EARNINGS SET RECORDS FOR SECOND QUARTER, SIX MONTHS

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/-- Lancaster Colony Corporation (NASDAQ: LANC) today reported that sales and earnings for both the second fiscal quarter and six months ended Dec. 31, 1992, reached record highs.
For the three months, net earnings increased 54 percent to $12,037,000 or 70 cents per share compared with $7,835,000 or 46 cents per share earned in the corresponding three months a year ago. Net sales were $171 million vs. $147 million in the second quarter last year.
Six-months net earnings reached $22,578,000 or $1.32 per share, up 47 percent from the $15,358,000 or 89 cents per share earned in the corresponding six months a year ago. Net sales were $323 million vs. $279 million a year ago.
John B. Gerlach, president of Lancaster Colony, cautioned that "a somewhat stronger economy and a good mixture of new products boosted our volume and earnings to unusually large increases."
Gerlach said specialty food operations continued to lead the company's growth in both sales and earnings. He added that all areas of the business contributed to "our very satisfactory results." Looking ahead, Gerlach said, "We look for the year ending June 30, 1993, to be another record year."
