LAN WDM Communications Via 1550nm LAN Transceiver; Mix 10Base-T With Any Other Data, Video or Voice on a Single Fiber Pair.

GREENLAWN, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 29, 1998--Using Wavelength Division Multiplexers, WDM's, for mixed LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used.  traffic just became simple. Telebyte's (OTC OTC

BB:TBTI) new Model 376, 10Base-T to single-mode fiber See singlemode fiber.  transceiver, provides the operating solution at 1550 nm, one of the wavelengths required for WDM's. The Model 376 in combination with a two channel WDM (1) (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) A technology that uses multiple lasers and transmits several wavelengths of light (lambdas) simultaneously over a single optical fiber.  allows the mixing of multiple LAN traffic, or the combination of LAN and video, CATV (Community Antenna TV) The original name for cable TV. It used a single antenna at the highest location in the community in order to deliver a quality signal to homes in areas with hilly terrain or other interference. , T1/E1 or any other data source that can be provided at 1310 nm. These two wavelengths are utilized by most low cost WDM's which expands the utilization/bandwidth of a single fiber pair.

The Model 376 provides for transmission of 10Base-T data over single-mode fiber optic cable. The operational wavelength of the Model 376 is 1550 nm. The operation of a pair of Model 376's is transparent to any Ethernet LAN. The pair of 376's provides for operation over a distance of 38km of single-mode cable.

In the Model 376 the full duplex (Computers) arranged so that the information may be transmitted in both directions simultaneously; - of communications channels between computers; contrasted with half duplex(a).  signals of the 10Base-T port are converted to optical signals and driven over single-mode cables using ST connectors. A small wall mounted adapter provides the power. The unit is available for operation at 110 Volts, 60 Hz or 220 Volts, 50 Hz.

The operator interface consists of a group of five LED's that provide an indication of Fiber Link Monitor, Twisted Pair Link Monitor, Collision, Traffic and power. A Link Integrity Test switch assures compatibility by allowing the user to enable or disable the twisted pair integrity test. The Model 376 operates with all LAN's that run at 10 MPS data rate and comply with the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, New York, www.ieee.org) A membership organization that includes engineers, scientists and students in electronics and allied fields.  802.3 specifications for 10Base-T ports.

The Model 376 is packaged in a small aluminum case whose size is 1.5"W x 4"L x 1"J, 38.1mm x 101.6mm x 25.4mm. The Model 376 sells for $930 and is available from Telebyte or any of its worldwide distributors.
